Seasonal Rest & Rewilding
At Plas Y Maes, we believe that just as people need time to rest and restore, so too does the land. For this reason, our retreat space is closed to the public from the middle of October until middle to end of March each year.
This pause allows the land to rejuvenate naturally through the winter months. The fields, woodlands, and meadows are given space to recover from the impact of human activity and to prepare for the next growing season. During this time, we step back to allow the rhythms of nature to take the lead.
By closing seasonally, we support:
Rewilding Efforts: giving habitats space to reset and inviting natural growth to flourish.
Biodiversity: uninterrupted time for pollinators, insects, and native plants to thrive.
Woodland Regeneration: trees and undergrowth are left undisturbed, encouraging stronger ecosystems.
Wildlife Protection: animals such as badgers, foxes, owls, and pine martens are given the peace to roam, forage, and nest without human presence.
Birdlife & Migration: meadows and hedgerows become safe havens for nesting and wintering birds.
Soil Health & Insect Life: healthy soils support fungi, worms, and insect populations that are crucial for balance in spring.
Stream & Waterway Health: reduced disturbance helps our stream and wetlands remain clean, protecting aquatic habitats.
Seasonal Balance: creating a rhythm of use and rest ensures the land can sustain us and the wildlife for years to come.
Though our gates are closed to visitors during these months, life on the land continues, quiet, slow, and deeply restorative. When spring returns, Plas Y Maes reopens with renewed energy, ready to welcome guests back into a space that feels alive, abundant, and cared for.
We thank you for supporting this rhythm of rest and for joining us in honouring the natural cycles that make this place so special.
