From Summer’s Harvest to Autumn’s Call

August has been a month of abundance here at Plas Y Maes, with the harvest continuing to fill our plates, jars, and freezers. Our tomatoes have been ripening in profusion, offering more than enough for salads, sauces, and passata, with plenty to freeze for the colder months ahead. Alongside them, peppers, cucumbers, and aubergines have joined the table, bringing with them the rich tastes of late summer.

Out on the land, nature has reminded us once again of its resilience. While ash dieback has been a concern in recent years, this season we’ve seen many of the younger trees fighting back, flourishing with fresh green leaves and strength. It has been a powerful reminder of nature’s ability to adapt and protect itself. Sadly, not every tree survives; some of the older ones lack the vigour to resist. One large tree near the barns had to be felled for safety, though we are grateful it will continue to offer warmth through the winter as logs for the fire. In the photo, you can see a young sycamore already rising to take the place of the great ash, a hopeful symbol of renewal.

We were also blessed this month with a Sound Bath offered by two of our guests, Fed and Phil. They guided us on a beautiful journey of sound and healing, filling the dome with resonance and calm. It was a true gift, and we are deeply grateful for the generosity and presence they brought to Plas Y Maes.

Looking ahead, we are delighted to be hosting The Soul Circle at Iachusol Enaid on Sunday 21st September. This sacred day retreat will honour the Autumn Equinox through ritual, movement, cacao, and circle. It runs from 10am to 5pm and includes lunch, drinks, treats, and a ritual kit. Spaces are limited, so if you feel called, please contact rachelharveyyoga@gmail.com to book your place.

In October, we’ll be welcoming Ember & Earth for their Autumn Retreat on Saturday 11th October. As the season deepens and we move towards Samhain, this soulful gathering will offer grounding, connection, and elemental magic in our sacred woodland space. For more information or to join, please reach out to theartofomretreats@gmail.com or check out their poster here.

We also have some exciting news to share in next month’s newsletter, so keep an eye out — it’s something we’re looking forward to sharing!

Until next time,

From all of us at Plas Y Maes
