A Month in Abundance

July at Plas Y Maes has been a month overflowing with harvest. As we hinted in last month’s newsletter, the perfect blend of sunshine and gentle summer rain has worked its magic, and the fruits of our labour have arrived in abundance.

Our vegetable garden has been especially generous, gracing our plates with kale, spinach, courgettes, runner beans, broad beans, peas, broccoli, cauliflower, and potatoes – each one grown right here on the land. We’ve been enjoying plenty fresh, while also preserving a good store for the months ahead.

The orchard and soft fruit beds have been equally kind. Plums are ready, pears are ripening, and the soft fruits continue to flourish. In the coming days, we’ll be gathering the pears, blanching them, and freezing them for winter treats – ready to be paired with blueberries for our much-loved pear and blueberry crumbles.

Behind the scenes, we’ve begun the process of officially setting ourselves up to sell our soft fruits and package our Plas Y Maes teas. It’s an exciting step forward, and as soon as we’re ready to launch, our newsletter readers will be the first to know.

By the Mandala, our flower garden has been a feast for the senses, bursting with colour and fragrance. Bees have been working happily amongst the blooms, and the insect life this year has been rich and varied – including a striking yellow-and-black dragonfly that caught our attention.

At Iachusol Enaid, we had the joy of welcoming a group who filled the space with warmth and appreciation. On changeover, we were met with heartfelt letters left behind – a reminder of how deeply the land here can touch people, simply through their time spent in its presence.

In the workshop, Stuart was commissioned to create a bespoke gong stand for a 32” gong – built to be sturdy yet easily transportable. This design is now available in a selection of woods for anyone seeking their own.

It’s been a month of gratitude – for the harvest, for the beauty of the land, and for the wonderful people we share it with.

Warm wishes from all of us at Plas Y Maes. Until next time.
